Programs at St. Stephen’s

At St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, we are proud to offer a wide range of diverse learning opportunities in a supportive and encouraging environment for children from Early Childhood Education through Middle School. Located in the heart of Wimberley, Texas, our families come from surrounding communities to create a joyful, vibrant school environment where students, families, faculty, and staff thrive together.

Every day at SSES is filled with curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. We celebrate what makes each individual unique, fostering an inclusive community where every child is encouraged to reach their full potential.

It’s truly great to be an SSES Bulldog—where education is more than just learning; it’s about building a strong foundation for lifelong success!

EARLY CHILDHOOD

At St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, we are honored to begin the educational journey with our youngest learners, serving students aged 18 months through 4 years. Our strong Early Childhood program continues to grow and evolve, providing a nurturing and enriching environment for both children and families.

Our curriculum for Infant through Four-Year-Old classes is an adaptation of Mother Goose Time Early Childhood Education, which aligns with the Texas Early Childhood Guidelines. This framework allows us to create a structured, yet flexible, learning experience where students can thrive.

In our Early Childhood classrooms, children engage in teacher-led, hands-on activities that foster meaningful relationships and encourage learning through play. With a focus on sensory-rich experiences, art, games, and dramatic play, students are invited to explore their imaginations, investigate the world around them, and develop problem-solving skills.

By providing a balance of structured play and exploratory learning, our program helps young children build the foundational skills they need for future success. Each day is an exciting opportunity for our youngest students to grow, discover, and make connections that will support their lifelong learning journey.

LOWER & upper SCHOOL

From Kindergarten through 5th grade, our Lower & Upper School is where the spirit of St. Stephen’s truly shines! This program is designed to nurture the growth of curiosity, confidence, problem-solving skills, and a lifelong love of learning in a supportive and motivating environment.

Our Lower School program blends traditional learning with collaborative and innovative instruction, ensuring that students master essential skills while being challenged to think more deeply and creatively. This dynamic approach sets the foundation for academic success and encourages students to become curious, independent thinkers.

In addition to their core academic studies, Lower School students attend chapel twice a week and participate in a weekly Religious Education class. They also enjoy a wide range of co-curricular classes, including:

  • Music

  • Art

  • Spanish

  • Physical Education

  • STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math)

  • Library

  • Garden

  • Robotics/Technology

These experiences allow students to explore their passions, develop new skills, and foster creativity while building a well-rounded academic foundation.

We are excited to provide a nurturing and challenging environment where Lower School students thrive academically, socially, and spiritually!

Middle School

At St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, we blend a traditional curriculum with innovative learning activities within a structured setting, helping students balance freedom and responsibility as they transition into young adulthood. Our academically accelerated program is designed to challenge students while fostering independence, critical thinking, and personal growth.

Teachers guide students not only in academic subjects but also in the core principles of integrity, courtesy, and service to others through both classroom instruction and collaborative group projects. This holistic approach prepares students for success in all areas of life.

In addition to their core subjects, our Middle School students enjoy a diverse range of co-curricular classes, including:

  • Art

  • Music

  • Spanish

  • Physical Education

  • Archery

  • Debate/Speech

  • MakerSpace

Our MakerSpace is an exciting innovation that offers hands-on opportunities for students to explore creativity and technology. Equipped with 3D printers, coding tools, and a Glowforge, this space empowers students to bring their ideas to life and develop new skills in design, engineering, and technology.

The Middle School experience at St. Stephen’s is a balanced, enriching, and dynamic journey that prepares students for both academic success and personal growth.

Religious Education

At St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, chapel services are a cornerstone of our community, providing a time each week for our school to come together in faith and reflection. Our Monday chapel services for Lower, Upper and Middle School students are designed with a liturgy and style that is appropriate for each grade level, supporting meaningful worship experiences during these sacred times.

Honoring our Episcopal tradition, we joyfully welcome students from all races, ethnicities, religions, and backgrounds to participate in worship and learning. This inclusive environment fosters respect, compassion, and unity within our school community.

In addition to weekly chapel services, our Middle School students attend bi-weekly Religious Education classes, where they deepen their understanding of faith and explore important spiritual lessons. Our Kindergarten through 8th gradestudents participate in a fun and interactive Chapel on Wednesdays, filled with praise songs, Bible stories, and engaging lessons that make learning about faith an exciting experience for everyone.

Our Preschool students also attend Chapel every Wednesday, led by our incredible Mrs. Donahoe. She brings Bible stories to life through a fun movement and singing curriculum that is the highlight of the week for our PreK students. Her energy and passion make each chapel session a joyful and memorable experience for our youngest learners.

At St. Stephen’s, faith is woven into the fabric of daily life, helping guide students as they grow in spirit, character, and purpose.
